Meet Dr. Andrew Oswari
Learn how he changed his health
I have been a Board Certified Family Physician for 20 years. During my medical school training at Loma Linda University Medical School, I had about 2.5 hours of nutrition classes during the four years. Unfortunately, the medical profession does not value nutrition as much as it does diagnoses and medications to treat it. My entire experience with nutrition was diet and exercise. More specifically exercise more and eat less. What mattered most was Calories in and Calories out (CICO). I was more plant based during these 20 years and with exercise and eating at only 1200-1400 kcal per day (my basal metabolic rate should have been 2200kcal/day) I was still obese. In January 2019, my HgbA1C was 7.2%…..I was diabetic! I was devastated! How could I be eating well, exercising, teaching my patients what I knew about nutrition and become diabetic at the age of 49? That’s when I searched for alternative ways to eat. On February 13, 2019 I started a ketogenic diet. I didn’t know anything about it and learned how to get started through a Facebook group. My brain fog was so bad, that I couldn’t even read a book. In two weeks, I noticed that my daily headaches, reflux, irritable bowel, knee pain and brain fog had all stopped! To date, I have lost a total of 70 lbs and I don’t feel like I’ve even had to work for it. At this point, I do not see this as a diet. I enjoy my foods, I am stronger than I have ever been, I feel great, and I have finally found passion in healing others with the thousands of hours I have spent researching about health and nutrition. This is not a diet….this is a way of life!
